Recap, Season Check-in, and Looking Ahead
Monday PM's storm finally came in as a favorable snowfall producer for Big Sky! Totals generally ranged from 3–6 inches, with the Bridgers on the lower end.
A reader comment (always feel free to comment and ask questions; I'll answer as I'm able) prompted me to dig into the following question: How are we doing for the season so far? Based on the nearby SNOTEL stations, we've seen about 21" at Bridger and 9" at Big Sky. For Big Sky that's right around the median. Bridger is near the 90th percentile, largely thanks to the storm a couple of weeks ago. However, as many are aware, most of that snow melted out about a week ago, so current snow depths are only a few to ~7 inches. That's near median at Bridger and a bit below at Big Sky.
It’s important to note that this early in the season, a single big storm or a dry spell can swing these numbers dramatically, so don't read too much into them.
Looking ahead, the good news is another storm is on tap for Sunday through Monday. Details are still uncertain, but I'll aim to have a forecast out Thursday PM or Friday AM.
